For many people the rugged scenery of Gwynedd is the very essence of North Wales. From White Tower Holiday Park you can discover why this part of the country is so popular with visitors.
At the heart of the county is the Snowdonia National Park, a vast area of mountains, lakes and moorland. The views here are superb and it’s ideal for mountain walkers. However, if you’re feeling less energetic head to Llanberis where you can take the famous Snowdon Mountain Railway to the top and enjoy the magnificent scenery in comfort. Railway fans on one of our Gwynedd cottage holidays will also enjoy the Ffestiniog railway, where steam driven trains will take you for a nostalgic journey through Snowdonia. And don’t miss Lake Bala, Wales’ largest natural lake, which offers a variety of watersports.
For a real taste of unspoilt Wales, head to the beautiful Llyn Peninsula. Jutting out into the Irish Sea, the coastline here is dramatic and untamed. Welsh is widely spoken and the traditional Welsh culture is still much in evidence. Gwynedd is also home to Portmeirion, an idiosyncratic village created by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, and location for cult TV series “The Prisoner”.
There’s no shortage of great family activities just a short distance from White Tower Holiday Park! You’re only ten miles from Llanberis at the foot of Snowdon, and from here you can catch a train to the summit of the mountain. Or, for the more energetic, there are several different footpaths which enable you to reach the summit of Snowdon some 3,560 feet above sea level.
You can also visit Dinorwig Power Station in Llanberis – and if the family are keen on water-sports, Padarn Lake offers a wide variety of activities including windsurfing, canoeing and rafting – plus there’s climbing and abseiling, with equipment available for hire on site.
The award winning blue flag beach at Dinas Dinlle is a real attraction for adults and children alike, with ample free parking, beach shops and cafes, shallow waters and safe bathing for all ages – plus excellent bass fishing. Caernarfon Airport is at the north end of the beach, from where you can take a pleasure flight over Caernarfon Castle, the Menai Straits and Snowdon.
Other local activities include horse riding and an 18 hole golf course. For local indoor family activities, take a trip to Caernarfon leisure centre and swimming pool, Llandudno’s multi cinema complex or Rhyl’s sea life centre.
Also locally there is Paintball Wales, Surf Snowdonia, Glasfryn Park and Greenwood Forest Park. Within 20 minutes drive is The longest zip line in Europe and fastest in the world! Why not try out Bounce Below, we have! It’s the newest and most exhilarating experiences you can have underground.
